Are you ready for some Football?
We sure are at our house, the Bronco Jersey’s are ready to go, Beer is chilling, NFL Fantasy Team drafted so all that’s left is to see how Peyton Manning does leading our boys to their first regular season victory.
Football potluck parties are so much fun and it’s nice to have a go-to snack to bring that’s both easy and fun to make PLUS makes a big impression on your friends when you unveil your yummy treat.
Touchdown Turkey Bites are so yummy you might just want to leave a few home for yourself for the Monday night game.
These only take 20 minutes
Touchdown Turkey Bites Step by Step Directions
Stack several slices of bread on cutting board, cut slices of bread into football shapes and then place on parchment paper on a large baking pan. Brush with Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO)
(I take all the extra bread edges and place them in an open jar I keep in the pantry to make my own whole grain breadcrumbs
Top with turkey mixture
Top with grated cheese
Optionally you can spread just remove the crusts from the bread slices and fill your baking sheet with bread slices cut in half.
Pop into oven at 350° Bake 8 Minutes Check to see if cheese is melted how you like it.
Place on a serving plate and serve! Watch out for your fingers when you set the plate on the buffet, these will disappear.
If you want to be extra fancy you can pipe a mixture of cream cheese and plain greek yogurt or sour creek on each football in the shape of laces. We forgot to do it for these photos but there’s always next time.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 1 chopped tomato (or left over salsa)
- 1 jar Frank's Hot Sause (any variety)
- 1 jar BBQ Sauce
- 1 cup shredded cheese
- 1 loaf whole grain bread
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- Plain Greek Yogurt
Instructions
- Pre-heat oven to 300 degrees
- Brown the turkey in a big skillet over medium heat. I prefer cast iron but anything will work
- Add tomato after the turkey is starting to brown.
- As soon as the turkey is brown stir in 2 tablespoons of hot sauce and 2 tablespoons of BBQ Sauce
- Reduce heat and cover
- Take your loaf of bread and either stack 2 or 3 pieces on the cutting board and cut each slice into a football shape or use your kitchen shears and do them one at a time. The second method takes longer but your footballs look a little nicer.
- Spread your footballs on your baking sheet
- Scoop turkey mixture in the center and top with grated cheese
- Bake at 300 for 7 minutes Check to see if cheese has melted and gotten that nice caramelized top.
- Pipe Yogurt on each football to make laces just before serving and serve with Yogurt or sour creem on the side
